Skimboarding is a boardsport on water in which a skimboard (much like a surfboard but smaller and without fins) is used to glide across the water's surface to meet an incoming breaking wave, and ride it back to shore.

The sport was created in 1920 at Laguna Beach, California when two lifeguards built wooden boards to ride the shore break.

Some of the famous skimboarders include Casey Kiernan, Keiao Bucasas, Harry Wilson, Bill Bryan and John Weber¹. Amber Torrealba is also one of the most well-known women’s skimboarders in the sport.
